Long-Distance Moving From Lubbock to Dallas, Texas
Why we love Dallas, Texas
Dallas is where Texas goes big, and we mean that as a compliment. The skyline with Reunion Tower’s lit-up ball, Klyde Warren Park stretched right over a freeway, the State Fair of Texas filling Fair Park every fall since 1886 with Big Tex greeting the crowds — there’s an energy here you feel the minute you come in on I-20. And for all its size, Dallas is still a city of real neighborhoods: the old storefronts of Bishop Arts in Oak Cliff, the shady streets of Lakewood by White Rock Lake, the murals and music of Deep Ellum. A metro of more than eight million people keeps growing for a reason, and we’re glad our trucks get to be part of it.
To appreciate Dallas, it helps to know the history that shaped it — because this city didn’t start as a skyline. It started as one man’s trading post at a river crossing, and the story of how it grew tells you a lot about the place people are still moving to today.

Early Settlement
In November 1841, a Tennessee lawyer and trader named John Neely Bryan settled on the east bank of the Trinity River at the only good crossing point for miles. He’d planned to trade with the tribes who used the route, but instead he laid out a townsite, opened a general store and post office, and ran a ferry across the river. The town was surveyed in 1844, became the seat of the new Dallas County in 1846, and received its town charter from the Texas Legislature in 1856. From a single cabin at a river ford, Dallas was on its way.
Railroad and Cotton Crossroads
Dallas tried for years to make the Trinity River navigable, and when that didn’t pan out, the railroads made its fortune instead. The Houston and Texas Central arrived in 1872 and the Texas and Pacific crossed it in 1873, making Dallas one of the first major rail crossroads in Texas. Cotton, leather, and buffalo hides poured through town, and Dallas grew into a trading and banking center for the whole region. That crossroads instinct never left — it’s the same reason the city became a hub for commerce, and later for highways and air travel.
Community Spirit
Nothing says Dallas like the State Fair of Texas, held at Fair Park nearly every year since 1886, where the 55-foot Big Tex has welcomed fairgoers since 1952 and the Texas-OU football game packs the Cotton Bowl each October. The Dallas Independent School District is one of the largest in the state, serving roughly 140,000 students across more than 230 schools, from neighborhood campuses to nationally ranked magnet programs. Between Friday night football, fair season, and neighborhood festivals from Oak Cliff to Deep Ellum, this is a city that shows up for its own.
Modern Dallas
Today Dallas is home to about 1.3 million people, making it the ninth-largest city in the United States and the third-largest in Texas, anchoring a Dallas-Fort Worth metro of more than eight million. People move here for jobs at major corporate headquarters, for the food and music scenes, and for neighborhoods that range from Uptown high-rises to established areas like Preston Hollow and Lakewood. Landmarks like Reunion Tower and Klyde Warren Park give the city its postcard views, but it’s the steady stream of new neighbors that keeps Dallas growing. Every year, a lot of those new neighbors arrive in one of our trucks.

Lubbock to Dallas Moving — Frequently Asked Questions
Here are a few answers to common questions we get from our customers. If you have any more questions — don’t hesitate to give us a call!
You're called Lubbock Moving Company — do you really handle moves in Dallas?
We do, and it’s a run we know well. Dallas is about 345 miles east of our home base — US-84 through Post and Snyder, then I-20 East through Sweetwater and Abilene straight into the Metroplex — and we’ve been making that drive for more than fifteen years. We hold statewide authority under TXDMV #009155382C and federal authority under USDOT #3426928, so serving Dallas isn’t a stretch for us, it’s part of the job.
Day to day, that means Dallas moves go on the calendar as scheduled long-distance jobs. We plan the route, the crew, and the timing in advance, and you get one written flat-rate quote that covers everything before we ever load a box.
Does the distance from Lubbock make my move cost more or slow things down?
Honest answer: at 345 miles, Dallas is a scheduled long-distance run for us rather than a daily local route, so we book these moves in advance instead of squeezing them between jobs across town. The good news is that the drive itself is a straight shot — US-84 to I-20 East is flat, fast interstate most of the way — and once a date is set, our crews run it on schedule.
As for cost, the travel is built into your free written estimate from the start. You see one flat-rate figure up front, in writing, with no hidden fees and no mileage surprises tacked on later. The number we quote you is the number you pay.
How far ahead do I need to book, and can you help if I'm on short notice?
The more notice you can give us, the more choices you’ll have on dates — that’s especially true for a long-distance run like Lubbock to Dallas, and for end-of-month weekends when leases turn over all across the Metroplex. A week or two of lead time is plenty in most cases, and we can often fit you in the same week you call.
If life throws you a curveball, call anyway at 806-855-8427. Same-day help is sometimes possible depending on where our crews are, and even when it isn’t, we’ll find you the earliest slot we’ve got and put the whole plan in writing.
I'm moving between Dallas and Lubbock — is that a route you run often?
It’s one of our most natural routes, and it runs both directions. Between Texas Tech families, job transfers, and folks trading big-city life for the South Plains — or the other way around — we’re regularly rolling down US-84 and I-20 between the two cities. Our crews know both ends: the neighborhoods and student rentals around Lubbock, and Dallas spots from Oak Cliff bungalows to Uptown apartment towers.
Because we’re based on one end of the route, scheduling is simple and the whole move stays with one company and one crew from door to door. You get a single flat-rate written quote for the trip, whichever direction you’re headed.
Can you move me from Dallas to somewhere else in Texas, like Austin, Houston, or San Antonio?
Yes — our long-distance service covers anywhere in Texas, not just the road back to Lubbock. If you’re leaving Dallas for Austin, Houston, San Antonio, or a small town most folks couldn’t find on a map, we can pick up at your Dallas address and deliver anywhere in the state under our TXDMV statewide authority.
Every one of those moves is quoted flat-rate and in writing before we start, so the distance is priced in from day one. Call 806-855-8427 with your two addresses and we’ll put together a free written estimate for the full trip.
Are you licensed and insured to move me in Dallas?
Fully. Lubbock Moving Company operates under TXDMV #009155382C, which covers moves anywhere in Texas including Dallas and the whole Metroplex, and USDOT #3426928 for federal authority. We’re insured as well, so your belongings are protected from the moment we load in Dallas until the last piece is set down at your new place.
You can verify both numbers yourself with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and the federal database — we’d encourage it, honestly, because it’s the fastest way to weed out the fly-by-night outfits that pop up around a big city. Ask us anything about our credentials when you call for your quote; we’re glad to walk you through it.
Do your crews actually know their way around Dallas?
They do — you don’t run Texas long-distance moves for fifteen-plus years without learning the Metroplex. Our crews have worked the older neighborhoods like Lakewood and the M Streets near White Rock Lake, the historic streets of Oak Cliff around the Bishop Arts District, established areas like Preston Hollow, and the high-rise and mid-rise buildings in Uptown and downtown where elevator reservations and loading docks are part of the plan.
We also plan the driving like professionals: coming in on I-20, timing the trip around Dallas rush hour, and knowing which loops — I-635, Loop 12, the Dallas North Tollway corridor — get us to your street without wasting your afternoon. Big-city moves reward preparation, and preparation is most of what you’re hiring.
What does full-service moving include, and how do I get a quote?
Full-service means we can handle the whole move or just the parts you want help with: packing and unpacking, loading, transport, and moving labor if you’ve already rented your own truck. Our crews arrive with the truck, furniture pads, dollies, straps, and shrink wrap, and we handle homes, apartments, and commercial spaces alike — from a two-bedroom in Deep Ellum to an office suite downtown.
Getting a quote is simple: call 806-855-8427, tell us where you’re moving from and to and roughly what you’ve got, and we’ll put together a free written estimate with everything spelled out up front. We take cash and all major credit cards, and there are no hidden fees — the quote you approve is the deal you get.
