Why we love Post, Texas
Post is one of our favorite towns on the South Plains, and it’s not close. This is a county seat with a real working downtown — an official Texas Main Street City where the old Postex Cotton Mill fills up with dealers for Old Mill Trade Days, the Hotel Garza still stands on East Main like it has since the 1910s, and locals are bringing the Garza Theatre back to life. Add in Friday nights behind the Post Antelopes, the Garza County Historical Museum’s 26 rooms of local history, and cotton, cattle, and oil country running right up to the edge of the Caprock, and you’ve got a town with more character per block than cities ten times its size.
To appreciate Post, it helps to know the history that shaped it — because this may be the only town in Texas dreamed up, drawn out, and built from scratch by a breakfast-cereal tycoon.

Early Settlement
In 1906, cereal manufacturer C.W. Post bought roughly 200,000 acres of West Texas ranch land and set out to build a model town from nothing. Post City was founded in 1907, laid out by his Double U Company with trim houses, the Algerita Hotel, a gin, and trees planted along every street — and that same July, voters made it the seat of Garza County. Within two years the young town had a school, a bank, and its own newspaper, the Post City Post. When the town incorporated in 1914, the year of its founder’s death, it took the shorter name it carries today: Post.
Cotton Mill and Ranching Roots
Post’s economy was built on cotton, cattle, and eventually oil. The Postex Cotton Mills opened in 1913 with 250 employees, turning raw South Plains cotton into finished goods — including the famous Garza sheets — right on the southern edge of town. Ranching never left Garza County either, and oil production and hunting leases became important parts of the local economy through the twentieth century. Today the giant old mill building lives on as the home of Old Mill Trade Days, when dealers from around the country set up on the first weekend of the month.
Community Spirit
Ask anyone in town and they’ll tell you Post runs on Antelope pride — Post ISD serves around 700 students across Post Elementary, Post Middle School, and Post High School, and the Antelopes and Lady Lopes compete hard in football, powerlifting, and softball. Downtown, the community is restoring the historic Garza Theatre to bring live performance back to rural West Texas, and the Garza County Historical Museum, housed in the colony’s former sanitarium, keeps 26 rooms of the town’s story on display. Between Old Mill Trade Days, the OS Ranch Museum in C.W. Post’s 1911 office, and a downtown recognized as an official Texas Main Street City, this is a town that shows up for itself.
Modern Post
Modern Post is home to just under 5,000 people and remains the seat and heart of Garza County. It sits where US-84 comes down off the Caprock between Lubbock and Snyder, with US-380 running in from Tahoka — close enough for a workday in Lubbock, far enough to keep its own pace. Folks move here for exactly that: a genuine small town with a working downtown, its own school district, and ranch country scenery at the edge of the Llano Estacado. For a town built as one man’s dream project, it has done a fine job becoming its own place.

Post, Texas Moving Frequently Asked Questions
Here are a few answers to common questions we get from our customers. If you have any more questions — don’t hesitate to give us a call!
You're called LUBBOCK Moving Company — do y'all actually come out to Post?
We sure do — Post is squarely inside our regular service area, and our trucks make the run down US-84 off the Caprock all the time. It’s about 40 miles from our base in Lubbock, roughly a 45-minute drive, so a Post job gets scheduled just like a Lubbock job: the crew loads up in the morning and is at your door in Garza County on time.
We’ve been serving the South Plains for more than 15 years, and that has always meant the towns around Lubbock, not just the city itself. Whether you’re in the historic blocks near Main Street or out on ranch land below the Caprock, you’re a local customer to us.
Does being 40 miles from Lubbock cost me extra or slow my move down?
No games on this one: your free written estimate covers the whole job up front, travel included, so the number we put in writing is the number you pay — no hidden fees and no surprise add-ons when the truck arrives. US-84 between Lubbock and Post is a fast, straight highway, so the drive doesn’t eat into your day either.
For us, Post is a routine run, not a special expedition. The crew shows up in your scheduled window with the truck, pads, dollies, straps, and shrink wrap, and the move goes at the same pace it would anywhere in Lubbock.
How far ahead do I need to book a move in Post, and can you help on short notice?
A week or two of notice gives you the best pick of dates, especially at the start and end of the month when everyone’s leases turn over. That said, we can often fit Post moves in the same week you call, and sometimes even the same day if a crew is open.
The best move is to call (806) 300-7394 as soon as you know your dates. We’ll get you a free written estimate and lock in your spot, and since Post is a quick US-84 run for us, short-notice jobs there are very doable.
I'm moving between Post and Lubbock — how does that work?
That’s one of our most common routes, and it’s almost always a one-day move. The crew loads your home in Post in the morning, takes US-84 up the Caprock, and has you unloading in Lubbock by afternoon — or the reverse if you’re trading city life for Garza County quiet.
Because we’re based in Lubbock and work Post regularly, we know both ends of the trip: the neighborhoods and apartment complexes in Lubbock and the streets around downtown Post alike. One written quote covers the whole job, loading to final placement.
Can you handle a long-distance move from Post to somewhere else in Texas?
Yes — we run flat-rate long-distance moves from Post to anywhere in Texas, whether that’s Dallas–Fort Worth, Austin, Houston, San Antonio, or a small town nobody’s heard of. You get one written flat-rate quote up front that covers the whole trip, so the distance never turns into a moving target on price.
We hold statewide and federal operating authority (TXDMV #009155382C, USDOT #3426928), so your belongings are covered from your driveway in Post to your new front door. The same crew that loads you is the crew that delivers, which keeps your things in the same careful hands the whole way.
Are you licensed and insured for moves in Post?
Fully. Lubbock Moving Company operates under TXDMV #009155382C and USDOT #3426928, which means we carry both Texas statewide authority and federal authority, and we’re insured on every job. Those numbers are public, so you’re welcome to look us up before you book — we’d rather you check than wonder.
That matters more than people think in a small town, where a truck with day labor and no coverage can leave you holding the bag if something breaks. With us, your move in Post is protected the same as any move we run in Lubbock.
Do your crews actually know their way around Post?
They do — Post is a regular stop for us, not a dot on a map. Our crews know the downtown grid around Main Street and the historic district, the homes out by the Post ISD campuses, and the old Postex mill grounds on the south edge of town where Old Mill Trade Days sets up.
They also know the approaches: US-84 down off the Caprock from Lubbock, US-380 coming in from Tahoka, and the county roads that run out to ranch properties below the escarpment. Knowing the town means the truck is positioned right the first time and your move doesn’t start with a driver circling the block.
What does full-service actually include, and how do I get a quote in Post?
Full-service means we can do as much or as little as you want: packing and unpacking, loading, transport, and placing furniture where you want it in the new place. Every crew arrives with the truck, furniture pads, dollies, straps, and shrink wrap — you don’t need to rent or buy a thing, whether it’s a house near the schools or a business along US-84.
Getting a quote is simple: call (806) 300-7394, tell us what you’re moving and when, and we’ll give you a free written estimate with everything spelled out up front. We take cash and all major credit cards, and if your dates are tight, ask about same-week availability.
